Step away from the everyday to-do-lists and just relax

Something clicked a few weeks ago.

I had been working on multiple projects at work. At the end of my work day, I’d find myself coming home to cooking/cleaning/laundry/more work; it seemed nothing was getting completed and more things were being thrown on my plate. I was pulling myself in twenty different directions, on multi-tasking overload. I thrive on working hard and playing hard. But there comes a time when you just need to stop. Be it a couple of hours, a day or a week. You need to gather yourself up and step away from the everyday to-do-lists and just relax.

So we booked a spontaneous cruise to Bermuda.

Don’t get me wrong. We don’t have money to throw around on trips, but both Mr. Sweet and I knew we needed to get away. I was overloaded and he is starting a new job in just a week’s time. We agreed to take this opportunity to go on a vacation. So three weeks before the boat sailed, we booked our trip. The day before we were to sail, we packed.

The trip was pure bliss. Days of endless ocean, pinks sands, teal waters, mid-day naps, tropical drinks, laughter and falling in love with the island.

We are now refreshed.

Counting down the days.

The last couple of months have been a whirlwind. So many things have been tossed onto our plate. Since Mr. Sweet is starting a new job at the end of July, we decided to book a vacation before he starts. We were able to get a great price on a cruise and leave in a mere few weeks. There are so many things to do before then, but we are counting down the days. Every morning I send Mr. Sweet a text reminding him how many days we have till we ship off.

I am looking forward to kicking my feet up, having a frozen drink and taking in some sun. It is a much needed vacation.

Finally out of hiding.

After what feels like an eternity we took out our signed wedding guitar.

These days, the possibilities are endless when it comes to guest books for weddings.   Mr. Sweet and I didn’t want everyone to just sign their name in a book that would collect dust so we searched for alternatives. We wanted them sign a memorable keepsake which could be displayed in our home. After an extensive search, we came across the idea to have everyone sign a guitar. We both are so in love with music so we thought it would be a perfect fit.

I love waking up each morning to see the sun shining upon it.

Playing is good for the soul.

We have forgotten the little pleasures in life. How to play, a great big, tear inducing laugh, a dessert for no good reason. As a culture, we seem so hell bent on success that we never stop and realize that we are missing the little things until it is too late. Just remember that when you are older, sitting and reminiscing, that you won’t regret that you didn’t spend more time at the office, but that you lived the life that you always wished for.

Playing is good for the soul. Value and treasure it.

Every Tuesday evening my sister comes over. It is a tradition that started once I moved out of my parent’s house. Every week she comes by, we make dinner, watch movies, or play games. Mr. Sweet and I love having her over. We enjoy every ounce of time spent with her. The three of us laugh till our bellies are pained. Each Tuesday evening I try to make a little something special. Be it a dish that she enjoys or a dessert. Even though it is just the three of us, I like to embellish our food. Take last night’s dessert, a mix of strawberries, a bit of cake, whip cream all topped with strawberry champagne chocolate shavings.

Every day should be adorned with something beautiful – despite the fact you are going to eat it in seconds.

Cat versus Human

Cat versus Human one of my favorite new websites this week.  I can’t tell you how many of the comics on the site actually happen in our house.  If you have a cat you must check this site out!

This so happens to my husband.  He always says, “What? What did I do?”

Off to the Races…

Saturday.
Family. Friends. Food. Horse Races.

I woke Saturday to our cat purring in my ear. She loves to wake me in the morning with cuddles and then shows me the way to her food. Shortly after, I was asked to breakfast and shopping. What a great way to start a Saturday morning.

That evening friends of ours invited us to a get together that involved a horse derby and betting. I am not exactly sure how to describe how everything went down, but I will try. First off, there were no horses. How do you have a horse derby without any horses you ask? Well, you sit at a table with eight other people. There you will find a printout with the “horses”, each having a silly name. Each person at the table gets to select one horse each round to bet on. Each person places a one dollar bet in the middle of the table. At the front of the room there is a large magnet board with the eight numbers on it. They signify the “horse”. Eight sets of die are rolled and the numbers are counted. Shouting ensues. The die are rolled until one of the “horses” reaches the end of the “track”. There is a random winner each time to ensure everybody is kept on the edge of their seats. The winner gets the money from the middle of the table and the race start again. Imagine my luck when I see Delightfully Danielle, my pick of course. What are the odds?

We had so much fun that we are trying to think of a way to make our own board and have Horse Race Parties at our place!

Sunday.
Sleep. Painting. Trivia. Dinner.

After Saturday’s excitement, winning four of the eight games we played, K and I decided to sleep in. After a hardy sleep we ventured into our kitchen and gave it a good painting. Painting the kitchen then turned into painting the hallway. Of course, after the hallway was done, a nap transpired, homemade pizza with a heavy dose of trivia and dinner at my parents.

All in all , this weekend was a great one. It reminds me of how many great opportunities we have been able to have and that we have the most wonderful friends. I look forward the rest of this month’s planned activities.

Etsy Love: Totoro

My Neighbor Totoro is an anime film by Hayao Miyazaki. You might have heard or seen of some of his movies: Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service and Porco Rosso {which I did this post on}. My Neighbor Totoro happens to be one of K and my favorite anime films. The film follows the two young daughters of a professor and their interactions with friendly wood spirits in postwar rural Japan.
