Etsy Love: Christmas Red

It seems that this holiday season is flying by. I haven’t done one stitch of Christmas shopping and I am usually done by now. So to start off the season this Sunday’s Etsy Love is Christmas Red. I am especially in love the Sweetheart Apron. It is a perfectly pretty apron for when we have guests over. I might not want to even take it off after the cooking is done!

Sit down a bit. Let’s catch up!

Sit down a bit. Let’s catch up! I’m constantly amazed by how much time can fly by on this blog without an update. The months have gone by fast in my life, and I thought it’s about time for a little update…

  • My husband has finally finished his internship. We have had three months of him working seven days at week. Sure the experience that he has gained is great, but the time that has gone by has been considerable. We haven’t seen our friends, our parents or gone on a vacation. The outcome of the internship was a job offer. I am so proud of him and his accomplishments.
  • We have a new member of the family. No, it is not a baby. She is Layla, our cat. She is seven year’s old with the energy of a kitten. She makes us laugh constantly and we are so glad to call her our own. I can’t seem to remember life without her.
  • Emotionally I have been on highs and lows. So much is going on right now and it has been hard. I am trying to keep spirits up and trying to find the light at the end of the tunnel. I keep thinking that everything happens for a reason. I will learn from this…
  • I have started a Gluten Free Diet a month and a half ago. It has been a hard change and I have slipped up once and a while. I think this has also contributed to my emotional highs and lows. Hopefully by this time next month I will be completely gluten free.
  • A friend of mine is in a three part mini series that you should check out on TLC called “Big Sexy” (check your local listings for time and availability). I am so proud of her and I knew from the first day that I met her she would be going places. Congrats Nikki!
  • I have been a bookworm. Since K had been working so much I had a lot of time on my hands. I have gobbled up more books then I could count. I started looking into Amazon’s free kindle books because the cost was getting too high. Why didn’t I think of the local library? I have no idea.
  • I also have become a huge cinephile (an enthusiast of films). We were getting three dvds shipped via Netflix for most of the summer. Alas, we had to change it to two because prices at Netflix are getting ridiculous. We did keep streaming though.
  • Cooking and baking have been nonexistent. You wouldn’t believe how long it has been since I have baked. I really need to head back into my kitchen. She is like my therapist.

SO as you can see things haven’t been terribly exciting, just busy. It is my hope to once again write on this blog daily. We will just have to see what the future holds…

To use the china or not use the china. That is the question.

The other day while completing some of our registry at Macy’s I found out that our china might be discontinued. This upset me a bit. We have been using the china as our everyday dishes because when we registered for them the salesperson told us that it was an item that “Would be in stock for a very long time”. They are machine washable and very durable. They are classy and simple. They are perfect for us. Too bad she was lying through her teeth.

So the dilemma for me is this…do we keep the china as everyday dishes? I am afraid that if we break one of them we will not be able to replace it. We have ordered a couple extra, but at almost $100 a place setting it is getting expensive.

The solution that I have come up with is that we get a set of everyday dishes that we can use. Dishes that we aren’t afraid to break. Then this way we can put away the china and save it for those special occasions. We really did not want to do this when we first registered for them. We both believe that you should eat on china whenever you would like. Special occasions should not be assigned dishes. Everyday should be a special occasion. Alas, it looks like we are going to have to go the route of everyone else. Saving them.

I have found a couple of dishes that I am interested in. They are fun, colorful and playful. They represent what we are and how we like to live. Another thing that attracted me to them is the teal. I love how there are pops of the teal color and how you can mix and match them with solid color dishes. I am hoping K loves them as much as I do.

The start of a new month.

That’s right. It is the start of another month. My favorite month – November. Again, I decided again to try out NaBloPoMo.

I decided to try it out again because lately I have been bored or just too busy to blog. Ever since mid-August I stopped blogging as much so that I could concentrate on my wedding. Then right after the wedding I felt a bit “out of shape” and couldn’t get back into it on a daily basis. I need to get back into the swing of things and I believe that doing NaBloPoMo this month will help.

Of course of all the months that I decide to commit myself to NaBloPoMo, November is one of my busiest. I have two trips scheduled. One to visit my grandfather in Florida who doesn’t have internet access. The second will be my honeymoon to Jamaica and I will be enjoying the great outdoors and wonderful beaches. I promised myself that I would still write, even if the post is scheduled.

So wish me good luck!

Perfect table to go with a reading nook…

A couple of days ago I wrote about the chairs we decided to take from my aunts business. I am still looking for fabrics for the chairs, but while look around I found the perfect table to go with the reading nook that I would like to make with one of the chairs.

{How utterly perfect! From Design*Sponge}

I am completely in love with this idea. I can’t tell you how many books I have lying around. I am always giving them to the local library because we just don’t have the room for all of them. I hate to let them go, but I know that someone else out there is enjoying them just as I did. Now I can keep a couple and make a wonderful side table for my little reading area I am dreaming about.

Now I just have to figure out how to make them AND what books to use!

Mad about macarons!!

After writing my blog post on Wednesday (Ten Things I’m Really Loving Right Now… ) I was really, really craving macarons. I also wanted to order some so that my family could try them. K and I have been talking about having them at our wedding, but so many people we know have no idea what they are or what they taste like.

{Macarons bought at our last outing to NYC}

I know that I won’t be able to get into New York City till the beginning of August (where they have bakeries that sell them), so I searched the internet for a place that might have them in New Jersey. Alas, I could not find a bakery close that had them. So I continued the search until I found MadMac.

MadMac is a distributor (wholesale and/or retail) that sells authentic french macarons and madeleines. Two of my favorite cookies in the whole wide world. MadMac sells macaron trays of 12 and of 48. They have traditional flavors such as chocolate, pistachio, raspberry, vanilla, white chocolate and lemon. You can also order non-traditional flavors such as matcha green tea, jasmin tea, earl grey, sesame seeds, star anis, cinnamon and pumpkin. Oh how I wish I could order them all!

Last night the order came. One box for me and another for my boss (another great lover of the cookie). I was only able to eat one (lemon) since we were on our way out for dinner, but I can’t wait till tonight so I could have some more!
