First World Problems.

First World Problems: 101 Reasons Why the Terrorists Hate Us” is a collection of short essays, rants, and personal accounts of what it’s like to live in the First World from Ben Nesvig.

I picked this up as a freebie on Amazon and finally got around to reading it while waiting at the hair salon the other day.

Several moments made me chuckle and was alarmed how true this book is to what middle class Americans see as problems. It puts certain things in perspective. Our problems are nowhere near the problems the Third World faces on a daily basis. This is what the author highlights.

This book can be read in short sittings or quickly read in a few hours. The concept was interesting and different; definitely not something to be taken too seriously.  I could have done without the “bathroom humor” part of the book, but all in all I enjoyed the concept.

Ahoy Matey! Shiver me Timbers!

My husband is a big pirate fan. You wouldn’t know it by looking at him.

So of course on our recent Baltimore trip, a friend and I decided to surprise Mr. Sweet with a “Bring Your Own Grog” cruise in Fells Point. Since 2008, Urban Pirates has been launching daytime family cruises and nighttime adult cruises on their 52-foot custom built pirate ship, “Fearless.”

We opted for the nighttime version, where you can board the ship with any alcoholic beverage of your pleasing. Once on the ship, you are fitting with a costume and serenaded with entertaining pirate soundtracks. The whole experience was a blast as we sang along with our fellow pirates, drank our grog and laughed till our stomachs hurt.

The entire cruise takes about an hour, as the ship leaves from Ann Street pier, sails along Tide Point, Locust Point, Federal Hill, and the Inner Harbor. Though, you won’t venture out onto the open seas, you can dress, talk, and play games like a pirate as you safely cruise around the harbor.

Be prepared to man the water cannons and blast away any enemy pirates!

Urban Pirates runs four nightly trips every Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $25 and many of the cruises book up early (we booked about two weeks in advance since it was their first trip of the season). The cruise is a really unique way to see Baltimore, from the waters view and I suggest it for kids and adults alike!

Pinterest Fail!

So I was in a rush the other day. My sister and her boyfriend were coming over for our weekly game night/movie night/drink a bottle of wine night. I made adorable mini meatloaves, mash potatoes, biscuits and veggies. I wanted to have a little dessert but didn’t have the time or the energy to make something elaborate. That is when Pinterest came into play.

I am constantly looking to Pinterest for ideas and saw a wonderful picture of brownie waffles. How cute I thought! How quick! How different!

I made the mix, sprayed the iron with PAM and popped the batter in.

Problem 1: I walked away (even thought it was only 3 minutes)
Problem 2: I placed a bit too much batter into the iron.
Problem 3: I was in a rush.
Problem 4: Please see picture.

Yikes! There was batter everywhere! Dribbling down the cabinet and on the floor!

I do take responsibility for this Pinterest fail. I am not sure if I will ever try it again, but the end result was cooked brownie pieces scraped off of the iron and a lot of mess to clean up. It was yummy, but not at all pretty.

Delightfully Living: Day 85 – Day 94

365 photo project – the simple act of taking a picture every day for a year. The idea behind starting the project is for me to try to get myself to slow down and take a different look at the world. The series is called Delightfully Living. This is Day 85 – Day 94.

What you will see: moments of time, food, details of the world around me and things that I enjoy.

Day 85: I love the contrast of this picture. I was waiting patiently for my husband.

Day 86: Layla loves to bird watch. She will pat the blinds and meow till I open them for her. This is her favorite spot.

Day 87: Mr. Sweet & I love to have Bad Movie Thursday’s. We pick a random movie from Netflix, pop a bowl of popcorn and watch. Sometimes we will find a really great movie or a really, really bad one.

Day 88: Hello Kitty Trouble, company and wine will always lead to laughs.

Day 89: A delicious Hibachi dinner with friends! Their rice is amazing!

Day 90: Mr. Sweet & I love to make little things like the Doctor Who premier special. Popcorn holders with the characters on them! The next day we wore crowns and drank ale for the Game of Thrones premier.

Day 91: New glasses!

Day 92: Cards Against Humanity. Hilarious! We played just to see what the cards were about. We can’t wait to play with friends.

Day 93: When the hubby works late I like to have light dinners. Perfection on a plate.

Day 94: Yet another game night! Mr. Sweet ordered 3 more games this week. I can’t wait till they come in.

Delightfully Living: Day 68 – Day 76

This installment is a bit late. BUT better late then never!

Day 68: Mr. Sweet & I went for a walk in the snow before it melted thinking it would be the last snow storm of the season. So far it snowed again this weekend and a bit yesterday.

Day 69: Festivities for one. {Why? Blog Post if you are interested}

Day 70: Layla is usually all up in my business when I am on my iPad. She is obsessed with it.

Day 71: Window washers came today. Found this in an office. Guess he didn’t like his original view so he drew his own.

Day 72: Day after the window washers came another drawing was found. This one I love!

Day 73: Pizza for Pi Day!

Day 74: Play time with Layla. She is incredibly active for a 10 year old cat.

Day 75: Mr. Sweet & I decided to take a trip up to the Palisades Mall in West Nyack, NY for a little shopping spree. When we arrived we found out that they had just opened a Yard House. The Yard House has great memories for Mr. & I when we traveled to California. Let’s just say this place has two and a half pages of beers to pick from. We have already scheduled another outing with friends to go!

Day 76: After a lovely Scottish dinner for a friends birthday, the birthday girl decided she wanted a night out. Boy did we give her one! What a night!

Plane, train or automobile.

I have been badly bit by the travel bug. I’m just dying to hop on a plane, train or automobile. I want to explore a new city, try a new dish and experience a new atmosphere. Ultimately I would love a trip to Europe, but that’s going to have to wait until next year so we have enough time to save and plan.

Mr. Sweet & I did book a tropical vacation for August and a couple of smaller weekend trips every couple of months. But I want to get away NOW. I really crave peace and quiet, something totally different from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I want warm tea by a fireplace, laughter and finding adventure in the unlikeliest of places.

Unfortunately with the pace things are going, I am going to have to wait till our scheduled weekend trips to slow down and just relax.
