Delightfully Living: Day 61 – Day 67

365 photo project – the simple act of taking a picture every day for a year. The idea behind starting the project is for me to try to get myself to slow down and take a different look at the world. The series is called Delightfully Living. This is Day 61 – Day 67.

What you will see: moments of time, food, details of the world around me and things that I enjoy.

Day 61: Over the weekend Mr. Sweet & I visited Guitar Center. aka Heaven for the Hubby.   He needed new strings for his guitar and we wanted to look around. We came so close to buying an acoustic base guitar.

Day 62: A Chocolate Peanut Butter Torte made for dessert. {Blog post to come}

Day 63: Both of us having been trying hard to fight off a cold. My slow cooker Chicken Soup always does the trick to scare away those nasty germs.

Day 64: Playing around with scrabble tiles while waiting for Mr. Sweet to take his turn.

Day 65: “My name is Henri. I’m made of cork. I should float but I feel as though I am drowning..”  Henri is very french noir.

Day 66: Reminder: Don’t ever leave a drawer open. Not even for a minute. Layla gets into the smallest and weirdest of places. We have to constantly remember that we have a curious kitty who loves to get into everything.

Day 67: The snow storm we thought was going to hit yesterday came today. What a pretty site to wake up to in the morning.

January Roundup

Mr. Sweet & I were joking the other day that we couldn’t remember what we ate for dinner the night before. With the amount of time we spend running around doing errands, working, cleaning and sleeping it is easy to forget the good things that have happen. We all get so caught up in our everyday lives that we forget to stop and smell the roses.

I have decided that at the end of each month I am going to do a roundup as a reminder to myself of the great things that happen. It is a simple but effective memory keeping tool. It’s a great way to feel a sense of accomplishment, and get us ready to greet a new month of possibilities.

Delightfully Living: Day 11 – Day 18

It is a new year so I decided to start a 365 photo project – the simple act of taking a picture every day for a year. The idea behind starting the project is for me to try to get myself to slow down and take a different look at the world. The series is called Delightfully Living. This is Day 11 – Day 18. Going strong..so far.

What you will see: moments of time, food, details of the world around me and things that I enjoy.

Day 11: My latest addiction. I have been trying to give up my morning cup of coffee and substituting it for green tea. So far it is working.

Day 12: Our cork collection. Due to two dinners with friends 3 corks were added. Each cork represents a time we celebrated or a special occasion that occurred.

Day 13: Last call. A late night filled with laughter and conversation.

Day 14: Coming home was like entering a horror movie.

Day 15: My husbands newest guitar which he is “trying” to teach me to play.

Day 16: There was a heart in my chips. Chip heart!

Day 17: Cupcakes for dessert after dinner my sister and her boyfriend.

Day 18: The ride to work. Finally after days of raining there was light!

There’s something about Darcy.

Pride and Prejudice was first published in 1813. Nearly 200 years later, the novel’s romantic lead, Mr. Darcy, still has an effect on women. Be it the novel or the movies..there’s something about Darcy.

I am an avid reader of historical romances and an avid viewer of period piece movies. I’ve seen just about every version made of this Jane Austen classic, and found each one to be enjoyable in its own unique way. Of all of the adaptations my absolute favorite has to be the 2005 version with Keira Knightly and Matthew Macfadyen. Yes, there were some things about this movie that were historically inaccurate or not faithful to the book, but I am completely in love with it. I adore Matthew Macfadyen’s portrayal of Darcy. Many would gasp with the thought of me going against the crowd favorite – Colin Firth. For years I loved him as Darcy, but there is something about the way Matthew plays the character – moodier, shyer, subtler, and more tormented than his predecessor.

So who played the strong-headed Mr. Darcy best? Well, it depends on the woman answering the question. Either way, Mr. Darcy is always in our hearts and sometimes, as seen here, on our clothing.

I found Brookish’s Etsy Shop randomly and fell in love with their products immediately. I hope to order the Mr. Darcy Proposal Tote Bag and the Captain Wentworth Scarf with a lovely piece taken from Captain Wentworth’s passionate letter to Anne Elliot (from Persuasion). They are lovely reminders of an author I hold dear.

Please note: This isn’t a paid advertisement. I just love their stuff! Click on the pictures to go directly to the etsy shop.

She makes us a family.

Layla sleeps in our bed every night, without fail. We often wonder if others do the same. I love how she cuddles next to us and her light purring throughout the night. She makes us a family.

I see the way that my husband acts with her. I know that one day he will make a great father.

Funny how a pet can teach you so much about yourself.

National GO Month

January is National GO (Get Organized) Month, as designated by the National Association of Professional Organizers.   As we all know, January is also a time for resolutions.  Instead of making the same resolutions to lose weight or pay off our bills, we are making a resolution to try to get organized.  Small steps, such as cleaning out drawers, clearing off kitchen counters and recycling things will be on our agenda in the upcoming weeks.   We will use small steps to help make this upcoming year a little less cluttered.

Below are a couple of organizing ideas that we love and have inspired us to get on the organization kick!

Maybe there is something in the water?

This song gets my foot thumping, my heart racing and my face smiling.  I don’t know what it is about this songs but it makes me happy.  It makes me want to take a long drive on a spring day with my husband with the windows wide open.   Ever feel like that?  Maybe there is something in the water?

Enjoy!

Assumptions…

Have you ever thought back to when you were a child.  To all of the things that you thought you were going to do, places that you thought you would visit and the person you thought you were going to be.  Now think about what you are doing now.  Is it what you thought was going to happen?

As a kid, I kind of assumed that by the time I grew up, I’d know exactly who I was and what I wanted to do.  It seems that either I haven’t completely grown up yet, or being the person I thought I was going to be is completely different from the person I ended up being.  I figured I had the potential to be anything that I set my mind too.  Of course I did set my sights for things that I thought I wanted.  Later finding out they were not made for me.

There was absolutely no chance in my young mind that I’d wake up in my mid-thirties,  without having traveled the world, owning a house while juggling an amazing job as a novelist with my two children in tow.  Oh and of course my husband was going to be a world famous actor who had too many Oscars to count.  A girl can dream after all.

I look at my life right now and I realize that it is not where I thought it was going to be at this point.  But you know what…it is OK.  I am still here and still have dreams.  Who cares if I didn’t complete them by the time limit that my young mind gave me.  I still have time.  I don’t own a house, but do live in an adorable and comfortable apartment.  My husband isn’t a world famous actor, but he is the most amazing, kind, remarkable man and I count my blessings that we have found each other.  I don’t have children, but the possibilities for them are there.  And as for the novelist…well I have learned that I am not the best writer.  But it is OK…I can always try.  I can strive to be a better person.  I can learn.  I can change and I can find out what I want.  Even though I haven’t completed most of what I thought by now, my future is bright and the possibilities are endless.

We all can still have dreams, no matter age.
