The search may finally be over!?!?!?

Back in June of 2009 I wrote a blog post about the absence of French macaroon’s in New Jersey. I had been in search of the perfect French macaroon and was beginning to think that the bakeries in my area were not going to provide me with the deliciousness that I needed. I thought about opening my own bakery, I am a good baker, but not that great. I know the ins and out of kitchens and ovens, but not the ins and outs of owning my own business. Plus I just don’t have the funds or the time right now to start up my own company.

In the beginning of May I received a reply to the blog post. It was letting me know that a new dessert shop was opening the first week in June  in Little Falls, New Jersey.

Could my dreams be coming true?

A place where I could get my macaroon fix on?

The new dessert shop is called Asalt & Buttery. From what they told me they are going to have numerous flavors including salted caramel (always a favorite of mine), chocolate, pistachio, green tea, raspberry, cherry, yuzu (a Japanese citrus), fiori di Sicilia (a creamsicle like flavor) and many more.  They also will have pavlovas, real sicilian cannoli, eclairs, cupcakes, cookies (choc chip, punitions, sables and more) caneles and scones. Oh my!

Their website is under construction but you can follow them on Facebook.

I am looking forward to checking them out once they open. I hope that if you are in the Little Falls, New Jersey area, and are in need of a macaroon fix you will too!

Monday Five Countdown!

I love starting Monday’s off with BookishPenguin’s Monday Five Countdown.  Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend (and hopefully you had a full three days to celebrate).  If you decide to do the Monday Five Countdown don’t forget to link-up on Candice’s page!

Five Things I’m Grateful For
1. My job. I love my new co-workers and the satisfaction I get out of a job well done.

2. Our three day weekend. I can’t tell you the last time that K and I had a three day weekend together without one or both of us having to work. It has been years. It was great to be able to spend time together and get things done.

3. Sunny days with bright blue skies. The last couple of weeks here in New Jersey have been soaked with too many days of rain to count. It is good to see the sun again.

4. I know it sounds cheesy, but I’m constantly reminded of how much my husband has really become just what I need at this point in my life.

5. BBQ’s. I love me some good old fashion barbeque food.

Four Things I Can’t Stop Thinking About
1. I really, really, really want to buy a house. Right now though it is not in the cards for K and I. We will have to wait a bit more for our house dreams to come true.

2. Gluten. I won’t go into specifics (might save this for another blog post), but I am trying to stay on a gluten free diet. The baker in me is not very happy camper.

3. An upcoming wedding. I still need to get a dress (the wedding is June 3rd). I am running out of time.

4. New summer clothing. I really need to do a little shopping.

Three Things I Want To Accomplish This Week
1. Shopping. I need a couple of new outfits for work, a dress for the wedding (with shoes of course), some summer clothing and some flats.

2. Writing more blog posts. I have missed it.

3. Some down time. Maybe a little relaxing, reading a book, a nap, watching a movie, having a cool drink or just taking a long walk with my husband.

Two Things I Am Working To Be Positive About
1. Money. We are really trying to save some money, but lately it feels like it is just falling through our fingers.

2. The heat coming. I love summer, but I hate the heat and humidity that comes with it.

One Random Thing
1. I really wish that I spoke another language. I was flipping through the channels the other day and came upon a soap opera on Telemundo. I had no idea what was going on, but it looked awesome!

What’s going on with your five for today?

Fill in the Blank Friday!

Horrary it is Friday and even better when it is the start of a three day weekend!

I am looking forward to this weekend. It is going to be filled with barbeques, long walks, lemonade and time spent with my honey. So what a better way to start it then with a Fill in the Blank Friday from The Little Things We Do…

1. If I could get away somewhere for the weekend I would go to a Sandles All Inclusive Resort somewhere in the Caribbean. Beach, sun, sand, a cool drink and my honey. That would be perfection!
2. Something I often rant about is when people try to push off their beliefs on someone else. My poor husband has to listen to me all the time about this. “Who does he/she think he/she is?!?!”.

3. One item I need to have in my fridge at all time is cheese. If it tasted good on everything – I would put it on everything.

4. My “life-saving” products are my creams. I cannot live without them.

5. A friend is someone who takes you for who you are. A person who doesn’t try to change you or make you feel bad for who you are. A friend is someone who loves your personality even though it may clash with their own.

6. If I could write my own blank it would be “What foods will you never develop an acquired taste for?”. It was a question that came up in an e-mail that I received yesterday. I am usually surprised by the answers that I get for this question from friends.

7. My favorite kind of art is anything that has to doing with painting. I worked for an art curator for many years and I loved seeing all of the new paintings we acquired. I can’t tell you how many hours I just spent studying the brush strokes, the colors and the textures. Sometimes I do wish that I still worked there so I could spend my days looking at wonderful works of art.

Hope you have a great weekend!!

There is a vacation in my future. Somewhere…

Life has been busy. Overwhelmingly hectic weeks at work with project and meetings lined up for miles, birthday parties, cleaning and entertaining whenever we have a chance, organizing and spring cleaning our apartment, making, completing and abandoning a lot of to-do lists, and so on and so forth.

I’ve realized that I seem to be on this never-ending quest to catch up in every single aspect of my life.  There never seems to be enough time lately to finish a project, visit friends, take a trip, visit old co-workers or just sit and relax.

Sometimes people comment on how K and I have everything together.  Our house always looks immaculate and our schedules booked to perfection.  Little do they know that it takes a lot of hard work and sometimes a bit of our sleep.

Even though today is in the 80’s and the sun is shining, I can’t help but think how much we still need to get done.  We most likely will have people coming over today and the house is a wreck.  We have clothing that needs to get cleaned, I need a dress for an upcoming wedding and K still needs to get work clothing for his upcoming internship.  Every day we are on the go and this summer is not going to let up.  With K’s new internship it means 7 days of work for him and work and picking up the slack at home for me.  A vacation or a getaway is not near in our future.

I also have realized that this blog has been suffering.  Twenty three days without a written word.  I believe that is a record for me.  I just haven’t had the time to sit, let alone write.  I miss being able to take a picture of what we have eaten and post about it.  I miss Monday Five Countdowns, the 101 in 1001 List, Fill in the Blank Friday’s and just my usual ramblings.

K and were talking yesterday on our daily walk about taking a vacation like our honeymoon when everything has settled down.  We took a week to fly to Jamaica and stay at a Sandles.  We both agree it was the most amazing vacation that we have ever taken.  Maybe it was because it was our first vacation together as a married couple or just the thought of being away.  We crave the simplicity of that vacation and moments when we can sit by ourselves not doing a thing and not feeling guilty about it.  One of the best things about that vacation was we were not attached to our cell phones.  Due to roaming charges we had to have our phone off for 90% of the vacation.  No texting.  No calls.  Nothing to disturb us from each other. It was pure bliss!

We would like to lie on a bed in the sun and not have anywhere to go or anything to do.  Read a book, cuddle and talk to each other, have a wonderfully cool cocktail.  I can’t tell you how appealing that sort of thing sounds right now. Too bad we have to wait at least 4 months for it to become a possibility.

Monday Five Countdown!

I love starting Monday’s off with BookishPenguin’s Monday Five Countdown!

Five Things I’m Grateful For

1. My family.  I love spending time with them.  No matter what we are doing they always make it fun and light.  I can’t tell you how hard I laughed all of Saturday when I was with them.

2. The last four days.  My husband has been away and I have been able to get a lot of little projects done that I usually can’t do when he is around.  He is such a wonderful distraction that when we are together we want to do nothing else but enjoy being with each other.  That makes it hard to do other things. lol.

3. Sunny days with blue skies and fluffy clouds.  This weekend was so nice.  I decided to grab my beach chair, a glass of wine and my Kindle.  I soaked in some of the warm rays and it was wonderful.

4. Margarita and Movie Night.  A new tradition we have started!

5. Fruit.  Unlike money it grows on trees.

Four Things I Can’t Stop Thinking About

1. Today is my sisters birthday.  She is turning 25.  TWENTY FIVE!!  Sometime I feel like time is going too quickly.

2. Osama bin Laden is dead.

3. I can’t wait till my husband comes home tonight.  I am going to give him the biggest hug and kiss.

4. Money.  It is the root of all evil.  I wish I could win the lottery.

Three Things I Want To Accomplish This Week

1. Make dinner everyday except for ManThursday.

2. Wrapping gifts.  We have four birthdays this week and another next week.  Phew!

3. A lot more posts this month.  I have been slacking majorly!

Two Things I Am Working To Be Positive About

1. Not getting the wedding band I wanted.  I almost bought a wedding band (I have my ring and an inset but no band for casual days).  I just couldn’t justify spending that much money right now.

2. My hair.  I am so not happy with it right now.

One Random Thing

1. Ever find a new show on Netflix and want to watch the whole series in one sitting?  I stayed up way to late last night to watch a show, couldn’t pull myself away and now I feel very tired today.  Lucky for my I still have plenty of the season to go!
