# 65. Learn to shoot a gun
That’s right. You read it right. Learn to shoot a gun! Ever since I was a child I wanted to be an FBI agent. I didn’t go down that career route, but I have always wanted to learn so I put it on my “Do before I die list”. So when my sister told me her friend (we will call him B) was willing to take us and teach us I was ready to go. Today we went to a shooting range for some target practice. I couldn’t believe how invigorating and terrifying it was at the same time! It was very empowering to operate something so destructive and powerful. I was nervous at first, especially with the other people shooting. The shots were so loud I would jump each time a gun was fired. And the smell of the gunfire was intense. K and my sister went. When it was my turn my hands were shaking and my stomach was in knots. I have a profound respect for guns and don’t believe they are something to be toyed with. B showed me how to hold the weapon, how to load it, how to stand and how to shoot. It is not as easy as it looks. I can’t explain how nervous I was, but also thankful for him teaching me. I would like to try again. I believe its something everyone should try once (especially if like me you’re a sheltered suburbanite). It teaches you to respect the weapon and that it is not a toy like the movies show it to be. It is something to be feared and respected.
