#13. Make 3 new breakfasts 2/3 – German Pancake

I am in love with breakfast.  Love it.  I can have it any time of the day.  Today I decide to make something that I have never made for K before.  German Pancakes.  I have had the recipe for a while and for some reason never thought to make it for him.  It is super easy and usually you have all the ingredients right in your kitchen.  Enjoy!

German Pancakes

4 eggs
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup sifted flour
2/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 tablespoon softened butter

Preheat oven to 400.  Butter  2 9-inch cake pans well.  Add the eggs in a blender, cover and blend until light yellow in color.  Add remaining ingredients (sugar, salt, flour, milk, butter and vanilla); blend till smooth.  Pour batter into the cake pans.  Bake for 20 minutes. (Keep an eye on your pancakes towards the end of cooking…some ovens cook faster then others.)  Serve with your favorite topping and/or maple syrup.

Kurt Russell leads a team of American scientists at a base in Antarctica. Their uneventful lives are disrupted by a group of Norwegians in a helicopter firing at a lone dog. When the chopper crashes, the dog moves in with the scientists. During the night, the canine metamorphoses and attacks other animals at the base and members of the team, who soon discover that an alien that can take any shape is in their midst.

Opinion:
I decided to watch this movie when K was taking a nap.  Usually I don’t want thriller/horrors on my own because I like to cuddle up to him when I get scared.  Well this movie is full of suspense, frightening, the creature effects are disgusting and it had me jumping out of my seat.  A good watch if you want to see something a bit dated but still great even now.

Eat before I die…

A while back there was a special on BBC of “50 things to eat before you die” .  I have been wanting to write a post about this for a while.  There are a lot of things in this world that I have yet to experience – be it taste, hear, see or even touch. I have put together my own list of things to eat before I die, but it will be ever growing. Whenever I come across something that I haven’t tried or that I would like to try I am going to add it to the list. After I have consumed a said dish, I will blog about it.

Here is my list….

*This is more of a list of things that feel that I need to eat before I die.  Some are things I have eaten and some are things that I would like to eat…

# 55. Try 12 new teas (2/12)

One of the goals on my 101 in 1001 list was to try 12 new teas. K and I are avid tea drinkers. There is not a day that goes by that we don’t have a cup of warm tea or a tall glass of brewed tea that we have chilled. Tea drinking in our house is like a little tradition. Together we pick a tea, cuddle and sip while watching our favorite shows. We usually stick with the black teas. Lately we have been trying to venture out into the tea world. There are so many different kinds of exotic flavors and mixes out there. Sometimes it makes it hard to pick. Our first venture was when my boss bought us a tea collection from France. We tried each tea but didn’t even know what we were drinking because everything was in French. A couple of months ago my sister also bought us the autumn collection from Tea Forte. Tea Forte has amazing tea collections. The tea is housed in unique silken pyramid infusers are individually hand crafted. They use whole-leaf teas and rough cut herbs that allows the subtle flavors of these fine teas to infuse into the water. They are completely amazing!

Teas we have tried from the Autumn Collection:

Apple Pomergranate (herbel tea)
Juicy apple and tart pomegranate bring a touch of fall to this ruby red rosehip and hibiscus tea.
Ingredients: apple, rosehip, hibiscus, pomergranate, orange peel, sunflower petals, safflower

African Solstice (herbal tea)
This rooibos blend is light and fruity with a soft vanilla note. Sometimes called ‘red tea,’ rooibos is an antioxident-rich herbal tisane.
Ingredients: rooibos, elderberries, rosehip, blueberries, mallow flowers, rose petals

tidbit of the day…

“It is never to late to be what you might have been.”

- George Eliot

I found this poem that I wrote many years ago.  I can’t remember the last time that I really sat and wrote.  I would like to start writing again, but at the time I wrote this I was going through a really hard time.  Sometimes I feel that my writing is best when I am in a “bad” place.  When I am happy I don’t seem to connect with writing as much.  I don’t know if that makes any sense to anyone else, but it does to me.  The last couple of years I have been in the most wonderful place and hope to never be in that “bad” place again. But does this mean that the connection with writing has been severed?

Wait
Just a moment in time
Freeze
The movie in your mind
Put aside the whispers
Filter out the doubt
You search for something that isn’t there
Am I a mystery? I think not
You listen to my voice, and call me an angel
This angel is flesh and blood
Not a doll to be put out on show
You – I am not a mystery
I am me
I am flesh and blood
Touch me please, I will not break
There is no mystery here
I am me
Here I am – desire abound
Relentless and sensuous – yours to caress
Like a flower; make me bloom
I’m not a mystery
I’m just me.

# 101. IMDB Top 250 – Vertigo

# 41. Vertigo
James Stewart plays a retired acrophobic police detective who is hired by an old friend to follow his wife, whom he suspects of being possessed by the spirit of a dead madwoman. The detective and the disturbed woman fall (“fall” is indeed the operative word) in love and…well, to give away any more of the story would be a spoiler. The story is about a tragic love affair, murder, and madness.

Opinion:
This movie is a classic! Alfred Hitchcock is truly the master of suspense. I wasn’t sure at first if I would really like the movie, but the more I watched the more I was drawn into the plot and the characters. I thought James Stewart was amazing and is able to express so many emotions with just the look in his eyes, fear, longing, love, desperation, anger, and finally total despair. I would recommend anyone who likes Hitchcock to definitely pick this one up!

Forgotten because it was very forgettable…

Marzullo’s Restaurant

117 Grove Street
Montclair, NJ 07042
T: (973) 744-6663

Rating: *
Price: $$

I had forgotten that we tried two new restaurants this weekend. Marzullo’s I guess was forgotten because it was very forgettable. When we first came to Marzull’s they gave us a table that was extremely uncomfortable as the servers had to reach around/over us to serve the people next to us. Now this is not a small place, but instead of making patrons dine in comfort the owner seems more concerned with packing in as many people as possible. The service was mediocre, the food bland, and the prices were way over priced for what it was. I have had better food from neighborhood pizza places at half the price. When we were ready to leave our waitress was no where to be found and another waitress had to get our check. I would highly suggest not even trying this place. Save yourself some money and head deeper into Montclair for some truly amazing food.

Some of the dishes we tried:

Fettuccini with grilled chicken, mushrooms and alfredo sauce

Cheese Tortellini with Vodka Sauce

Chileon Sea Bass over Broccoli Rabe in Lobster Sauce

* #93. Try 5 new restaurants (2/5) of my 101 in 1001.

The heads of it…

I have been dreaming about an unusual headpiece/hairpiece for the wedding. I don’t want the usual veil that everyone wears. From what I know a birdcage veil which I am looking for is hard to find without looking for it on the internet or having the piece specially made. I have found a couple of hairpieces that I am completely in love with, but I am holding off on picking one till I have the dress or find a birdcage veil that I love.
